Cruise Lines Offer Part-beach, Part-cruise Weddings Abroad In The Caribbean

Loved-up couples now have even more options when it come to planning their overseas nuptials as cruise liners offer part cruise and part beach weddings in the Caribbean.

Many cruise companies are giving brides and grooms the chance to enjoy weddings abroad on a sandy beach in the Caribbean in front of family and friends and then their wedding reception and honeymoon will follow back on the cruise ship.

Travel agents have noticed an increase in the number of cruise lines who offer destination weddings both on land and at sea and the Caribbean and the Bahamas are among the favourite wedding destinations.

Susie Wagner, the founder and publisher of Honeymoons.com, commented: It is a great trend and its cost effective. They can have their wedding in a beautiful venue on land while local wedding planners do the paperwork and make all arrangements in advance and the couple gets back on the ship for the honeymoon.

Disney Cruise Lines Fairytale Weddings has been offering off-the-ship Caribbean weddings for couples since 1998 when the company purchased a private Bahamian island, Castaway Cay.

Wedding packages for nuptials on the island include an officiant, flowers, music, and a wedding cake with a keepsake Mickey & Minnie figurine. The island is not a U.S territory so couples must first have a brief civil ceremony in Port Canaveral, Florida before the ship departs and they will have a vow renewal ceremony on the beach on Castaway Cay.

The wedding planning company, Royal Ocean Events, organises cruise weddings for many of the cruise lines, including Holland America, Princess Cruises, Carnival, and Norwegian Cruise Lines.

Spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Lines, Anne Marie Matthews, explained: You have the luxury of a destination wedding which would normally be very costly to have all of your wedding party attend and all the benefits of a cruise vacation for prices ranging from $1800 to $2700 depending on location.

Holland America provides a selection of wedding destinations and the couple (and ten guests) can head to the cruise line’s private island, Half Moon Cay and get married at the private chapel. Couples can also choose weddings abroad at Bluebeards Castle or Lime Tree Beach on St. Thomas; Pigeon Point Beach on St. Lucia; Cockle Shell Beach on St. Kitts; Valley Church Beach on Antigua; and Grand Old House on Grand Cayman.

Carnival provides tropical weddings in the Caribbean in destinations such as Barbados, Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, St. Thomas, Half Moon Cay, Nassau and Grand Turk.

Once couples have tied the knot in a picturesque and exotic destination, they can jump back onboard the ship and enjoy a wedding reception with family and friends and a romantic honeymoon cruise.
