Beach Cruiser Bikes – The Baby Boomer’s New Best Friend!

When I was a young girl, I had a cruiser bike and just loved it to death. It was my mode of transportation and took me just about everywhere I needed to go. The tires were wide so it was easy to maneuver over gravel, dirt and sand. I believe that was how it originally got its name, because it was the best bike for riding along sandy beaches.

Big tires make the cruiser easy to pedal and, at that time, it was only a one gear bicycle. Today the new improved beach cruiser bike is easy to pedal up hills and really fun to fly down the other side. Just a little more effort gets you to the top of the hill.

You can also still get the easy to use old fashioned brakes in your new beach cruiser. You just push back on the pedal while you come to an easy stop. No hand brakes, so you never feel like you have to have your hand stretched over the brake lever while you are riding. These bikes also come with straight handle bars so no back discomfort from hunching over to hold on.

Riding with no hands is suggested because it’s just plain fun! Well until you have to turn. Then you just hold on like crazy and control the bike around corners. I think it’s the solid frame and structure of the beach cruiser bike that makes it so easy to ride with no hands.

Another plus on the cruiser is its padded and comfy seat. It is actually built to sit on, not like other bicycle seats. The beach cruiser bike seat is the widest seat on a bike and it comes with lots of cushion. With all these features, this bike is the best comfort bike you can buy. Good on your back and comfy for your tush.

Now let’s fast forward to present day. I said that the beach cruiser is the best comfort bike you can buy with the features you remember when you were a kid. I am over 50 but I still remember how much I just loved my cruiser bike and with comfort high on my priority list, sitting in my garage is a brand spanking new beach cruiser bicycle. And I love it as much now as I did when I was young. I may be over 50 but I’m not dead and riding this beach cruiser keeps me young in mind and body. Age is only a number so go get yourself a new beach cruiser bicycle, you’ll feel like you’re 16 again!
